The History of the Church...

Our church springs from a rich tradition of studying and spreading the gospel to every corner of society, which was begun in 1729 in England and led by John and Charles Wesley.

The United Methodist Church is the result of the 1939 merger of three Methodist bodies (Methodist Episcopal, Methodist Episcopal South and Methodist Protestant churches) and a 1968 union of the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) and The Methodist churches.

The United Methodist Church now has over 10 million members worldwide.

        Our History in DeSoto…

Established in 1837 in the home of Jacob and Lois Payton, the first DeSoto United Methodist Church had its beginnings. A building at the current site was constructed in 1932 .  The educational unit was added on and completed in 1966.  This is the building we continue to enjoy today. Over one hundred and seventy years of learning, sharing our faith, and ministering to our community has been the heart of those involved.

        Our Beliefs....

The heart of the Christian Faith is Christ's ministry of outreaching love.  We are all called to minister wherever Christ would have us work to heal and free others.  United Methodists believe in God's grace, which means the unearned and loving action of God in our daily lives. The reign of God is both a present and a future reality.

         Our Mission...

Today we continue our devotion to creating disciples for Jesus Christ and making the good news available to anyone who desires to hear it.

All preaching and teaching is grounded in Scripture, informed by Christian tradition, enlivened by personal experience, and tested by reason. Along with other Christian denominations, we believe in God-expressed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

        Our Programs...

From young to old we have a program for all to enjoy and be involved.

Our Sunday morning worship service is at 9:30am.  This is followed by coffee and refreshment fellowship time before Sunday School.

Other programs include DMA (Don't Mention Age), United Methodist Women's Circles, Men's Choir, Combined Choir, Vacation Bible School, Bible Study, Community Ice Cream Social, United Methodist Women (UMW) Retreat, Church Camp opportunities, and Food Pantry mission work.
